Overview
Arthroscopy is a minimally invasive surgical technique that uses a pencil-thin camera (an arthroscope) and specialized instruments inserted through small incisions to diagnose and repair problems inside a joint — most commonly the knee and shoulder.
Because the incisions are so small, arthroscopy typically means less pain, a lower risk of complications, and a faster return to daily life compared with traditional open surgery. Most procedures are performed on an outpatient basis.
